We have a specially designed beginners class which runs regularly throughout the year. These short-course classes are designed for people who want to give Taekwon-Do a go, and would like to get a bit of a feel for it before they jump right in. It is also an ideal way for a family or a group of friends to get an introduction to Taekwon-Do together.
“If you are interested in taking Taekwon-Do lessons, but you’re not sure if it’s right for you, the beginners class is the place to be. The content and pacing was just about perfect, and has made the transition to full classes considerably easier to achieve.”
What can I expect?
Our beginners class is designed to teach you the basic techniques of Taekwon-Do, including basic blocking, striking and kicking. You will also be introduced to the tenets and philosophy of Taekwon-Do, and you will learn some basic self defence techniques which will surprise you with their simplicity!
You will be taught by an experienced black belt instructor with a passion for helping others achieve in Taekwon-Do. We all started where you are – at the beginning – so we understand what it is like to walk into the class for the first time.
With our beginners-only classes, you know you will be amongst friends, and with an instructor who has been there too.
These classes are deliberately limited in size, to ensure that you get the best quality instruction possible.
“Before starting the beginner classes I felt a little nervous having never done anything like it before; but I walked away from my first lesson thinking ‘how good was that!’. Taekwon-Do is challenging, hard work and rewarding but most of all real good fun. I always look forward to the next session.”
What will it cost?
Our beginners class is totally FREE.
Where/When is the next class?
Times for beginners classes are flexible, and are made by arrangement. Please fill out the registration form to ask us about the next opportunity.
“Having no martial arts experience, I found the beginners sessions very informative and pitched just right to bring complete novices ‘into the fold’ with no pressure to take it any further than you wanted. The basic techniques and tenets we learnt were useful and the instructors were very good at working with beginners.”
Do I have to start in a beginners class?
No. If you want to just jump straight on in then you can contact one of our instructors directly. You can find details on the Schools page.

“The Beginners class was the sort of class I had been waiting for. After my initial foray into Taekwon-Do years ago I was put off by large class sizes and lack of encouragement. So I was really happy to find the Beginners only class with Spirit as it presented a great chance to try again. With small groups and well structured lessons that start with the basics, patient instruction from experts – it really made me want to continue after the course – and I have since joined the Brooklyn club. I now look forward to every session.”
“The beginners class is a fantastic introduction to Taekwon-Do. The class had a really friendly atmosphere where I felt we could all be comfortable with our abilities. I learnt so much in just four classes, and by the end of the fourth class my confidence had already really improved. A highlight for me was seeing how much we had all progressed by the end of the fourth class – being able to jump straight on in with some knoweldge already at the next regular training session.”
“The beginners class is a great opportunity for those who are wanting to give Taekwon-Do a go but don’t know where to start. I had been filled with self doubt but Mr Kraiger was a supportive teacher and soon had me feeling confident with what we were doing and I was amazed with the simplicity of the moves we were being taught. I found the Beginners Class very rewarding and I was able to walk into my new school with excitement and my newly found confidence.”
